The Film Council brings together filmmakers, organizers, storytellers, and issue experts who believe in the power of film to solve problems. Throughout the year, the Council will screen a selection of films that have yet to be widely distributed and provides feedback and insights to support filmmakers at critical moments in formulating their impact campaigns. Council members also have the unique opportunity to engage in virtual sessions with the filmmakers and fellow Council members.
The Film Council aims to create space to both foster collaboration between and within the film and advocacy ecosystems and accelerate the impact development for environmental films. To further leverage this unique opportunity and in the spirit of collaboration, we intend to publish the shared learnings and insights generated both from this screening process as well as from impact campaign partnerships that arise.
The inaugural Council hosts a diverse array of members representing:
- Citizens’ Climate Lobby
- Climate Advocacy Lab
- League of Conservation Voters
- Organizing For Action
- Project Drawdown
- The Nature Conservancy
- The JPB Foundation
- University of Florida College of Journalism and Communications
This first cohort of films features the awe-inspiring imagery from two world-renowned photographers, Edward Burtynsky in ANTHROPOCENE: The Human Epoch and James Balog in The Human Element. Each film employs unique elements from the emotional and storytelling toolkit, from evoking the feeling of awe to showcasing personal, authentic voices. Check the films’ websites to see where you can catch them on the festival tour before they hit wider distribution.
